Susanne & Patric Graber-Ulrich and their team have been running the Boutique Hotel KARL in Lucerne since 1 January 2023. The two hoteliers and their staff bring with them a great deal of experience from Lucerne's middle-class hotel industry. Together they live hospitality as a passion. This is how they make the Boutique Hotel KARL a house where guests from Switzerland and abroad feel appreciated and at home - be it on a holiday or a business trip.

Lucerne is a breathtakingly beautiful city with a rich history and a unique culture. The city offers picturesque scenery, beautiful architecture, excellent restaurants and warm hospitality.

The prehistory of the Boutique Hotel KARL goes back to the 19th century. In 1891, the Catholic Young People's Association of Lucerne was founded. The aim was to meet the need for a meeting place for apprentices, students and young employees.

1904

1904

In 1900, the association bought a large plot of land of a former market garden on St. Karli-Quai and in 1904 built on it in neo-baroque style the social house of the Catholic Young Men's Association, today's Youth Home Association (JHV). Today it houses the offices of church organisations and the headquarters of Jungwacht Blauring. The business and hotel management school BHMS is housed on the lower floors (see No. 1).

In 1931, an extension was built to the west of the main building (see No. 2, today Boutique Hotel KARL). The four-storey new building with a flat roof presented itself as a clear commitment to modernity.

1944 - 1977

1944 - 1977

From 1944 to 1977, the Franciscan Sisters of Guggenbach were in charge of the housekeeping. After that, the Swiss Student Travel Service (SSR) took over the property on a lease and ran the building as affordable accommodation for students and young tourists. The tourist hotel was born.

In order to meet the demands of international guests, all rooms have undergone extensive renovation over the years. And so the former tourist accommodation was transformed into a modern 3-star hotel and presents itself today under the new name: Boutique Hotel KARL
